5 Steps To Taking The Perfect Instagram Picture

5 Steps To Taking The Perfect Instagram Picture

When it comes to Instagram, I’d like to think that I know a thing or two about taking a perfect shot. Instagram is not just my favorite social media platform, it’s also a great creative outlet for someone like me who loves fashion and photography. Here are five tips I swear by to always take the best Instagram photo that will get you hundreds of likes!

1. Frame Your Picture In a Square
There are a number of apps out there that will allow you fit your rectangular picture in a square but I would strongly advise against using these apps. Instagram is all about the squares and if you want your profile to look attractive and not cluttered, it is best that your avoid using those white bars to fit your image.

2. It’s all about the Lighting
When it comes to taking a good picture, lighting is everything! No amount of artificial light can take the place of a natural, sun lit glow. When taking a picture for Instagram I would suggest taking it in the daylight hours. Keep in mind that you do not want your picture to be overexposed so avoid taking your pictures when the sun is at its peak. My personal favorite time for taking pictures is an hour or two before sunset. This will ensure that your pictures are warmly lit and perfectly exposed.

3. No Filter
We all know that no filter is a popular hashtag to put on your pictures, and it’s popular for a reason. Most of the time filters don’t do your picture any favors. They distort colors and add an unpleasant tone to photographs. If you avoid using filters you will have a much more natural looking photo.

4. Use the Photo Editing Tools Instagram Offers
As much as I oppose using filters, I am all about editing your pictures. Instagram offers a Heaven-sent set of tools that you can use to transform your pictures from drab to fab in a matter of seconds. Before posting your picture, you will see a little tool sign on the center of your screen. If you tap it, you will a number of tools will open up that allow you to adjust the saturation, exposure, contrast, and highlights in your photos. By using these tools to edit, you can turn your picture into a masterpiece. Use it to bring out the colors in a sunset through saturation or play up your selfie by increasing the expose. The possibilities are endless.

5. Before Posting Make Sure your Picture is Straight
There is nothing worse than a beautiful picture being ruined because it is crooked. A straight picture is always pleasing to the eye and looks well framed. If you have a crooked picture, you can use the adjust tool on Instagram to straighten it in seconds.

These five tips will have people flocking to your Instagram page to see your photography skills. Follow them to exponentially improve your photos!
