Eat NY Style with a Black & White Cookie

One of New York’s favorite delicatessens would have to be the black and white cookie. This soft cookie will melt in your mouth and have you begging for more! Well, if you have never tried this cookie or you’ve been searching for a new cookie recipe then you have come to the right place. A cookie like this can be the perfect treat to serve at a house warming party or to bake for a girl’s night in. Your guests will die for you to spill your secret about this recipe! We’re going to show you how to eat in NY style. The ingredients include:

(For the Cookies)

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup of unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup of well-shaken buttermilk
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 ¼ cups of all-purpose flour

(For the icing, yum!)

  • 2 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of light corn syrup
  • 1 ½ cups of confectioners sugar
  • ¼ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons water

Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grab a bowl of your choice and whisk your flour, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl. In a cup, stir your buttermilk and vanilla together. In a separate large bowl mix your butter and sugar with an electric mixer for about 3 minutes until your batter begins to look pale and fluffy. Once you’ve mixed for 3 minutes add in your egg and begin to combine the ingredients very well. Grab your bowl with your flour mixture and grab your cup with your buttermilk and gradually spill these two into your large bowl at a low speed. Mix your batter until everything is smooth. Once your mixture is complete get a large baking sheet (buttered) and spoon about ¼ cup of batter onto the baking sheet. Place your baking sheet into your oven and cook for a good 15 to 17 minutes. The cookies should be done when the tops are looking a pale golden. Once taken out of the oven allow your cookies to cool down for a good 5 minutes.

Now, the cookies wouldn’t have gotten their name without their famous black and white icing! To create your icing mix together your confectioners sugar, lemon juice, corn syrup, vanilla and 1 tablespoon of water into a bowl and stir until everything is nice and smooth. Take half of the icing mixture into a different bowl while mixing in your cocoa, adding about ½ teaspoon of water until the consistency is the same as your white icing. Once your icing is done spread your white icing over one half of the cookie and you’re chocolate on the other and enjoy the deliciousness!
